Quit Smoking and Save Your Health

Picture this scene. We were in gross anatomy lab when we were asked to cut open the chest cavity of our cadaver. Feeling squeamish yet?

What happened next was a bit of a shock. Cadavers have been soaked in formaldehyde for at least six months before they get to the lab so you might imagine that they smell like formaldehyde on the outside as well as on the inside. That wasn't the case.

When we opened the chest cavity the first thing I could smell was not formaldehyde. I could smell cigarette smoke. It was a real eye opener. Imagine my surprise when I found that this former smoker's lungs were black through and through. There were no pink spots to be found. The lungs were black on the outside and they were black on the inside.

After slicing through one of the lungs, we found that it was the same degree of blackness all the way through. Everything was black. I understood right then and there what smoking could do to the human body.

When I was a young boy, I remember that my great aunt had emphysema. I can still see the oxygen canister that was ever present in her home. It was never far away. Life has many hardships but I think some of the bitterest are the ones we bring upon ourselves.

Practically everyone knows that smoking is bad and yet so many people continue to smoke. If you are a smoker you probably have thought of quitting many times. Nicotine is very addictive. Yet, people can and do quit.

My mother was a smoker. I was stationed far away in Hawaii for my first tour in the Navy and it would still bother me whenever I thought about her smoking. One day I sent her a subliminal tape designed to help her quit. In a few weeks she reported that she did indeed quit.

Smoking increases the risk of developing many diseases such as cancer, emphysema and heart disease. Believe it or not, even the possibility of developing gum disease is increased by smoking.

The cost of cigarettes is pretty high too. I was in the store the other day and the person next to me purchased a pack of cigarettes. I was surprised to hear the clerk ask for four dollars and twenty-five cents. Some people smoke a pack or more per day. The cost adds up. Seems like cigarettes are easy prey for the taxing authorities.

I don't know how you feel, but it appears that there are plenty of good reasons to quit smoking. I still have a relative that smokes and I hope she quits too. I'd like to see her preserve and protect her health.

If you are still smoking and assuming you would like to quit, you could print this article out and read it every day for motivation. If you know of anyone who is still smoking, maybe you could send it to them for inspiration. If these stories can help a few more people it would be good.

New article on Gum Disease

Gingivitis is a Funny Topic is a new article I wrote.

This is a disease that most people don't even know they have.

And even if they don't it is easily preventable.

So there is no reason to suffer from it.

I've also launched a site which I mentioned before,

Gingivitis Killer.com on this site, I talk about how
I found out that I had gingivitis after YEARS of not
knowing or at least not understanding what it meant
to have gum disease.

And if you would like to be kept up to date on what I have
to say about gingivitis and oral health, then sign up here:

You'll be glad that you did. No one should have to suffer with
a disease that most can prevent or stop cold in its tracks, if it
is already present.

Killing Gingivitis

Have you ever suffered from gingivitis or gum disease or know anyone who has?

Chances are, the answer to that question is, "yes".

The reason being that about 98% of the population is susceptable to gingivitis / gum disease.

Only 2% of people walking on the planet have a natural immunity to it.

If you are among those 2% of fortunate ones, then congratulations.

If you are like the rest of us - the 98% - head on over to GingivitisKiller.com

I struggled with gum disease, I didn't know I had it until some recession of the gums set in.

Find out what I did about it and what you too can do.

Fascinating Article about the Power of Walking

You can definitely lose weight from walking, because walking is an aerobic activity.

Here is how it works: you deplete your short term glucose supply.

The body then switches to its fat reserves.

Burning fat is easy when you walk an hour or so per day. Of course you still need to watch what you eat, etc.

Actually if you need help losing weight, you need to talk to your doctor. He could prescribe a nutritional diet for you. He can also probably recommend the best exercise for your particular situation.

Weight bearing exercise in addition to walking (aerobic exercise) is very important.

If you lose weight without exercising your muscles, you won't get good results.

Here is the article on walking that I like so much.

Walking is a great form of exercise. Its gentle and easy to do.

Check with a doctor before adjusting yoru level of exercise.

Thoughts on Addiction - What Causes Addiction?

I've spent some time writing an article about addiction called, "Addiction From Another Perspective".

It was fascinating to write this article because it allowed me to find some clarity around my thoughts on the issues of addiction.

We are all aware of what happens in severe examples of addiction, but what about the minor addictions that we all face everyday? For example, many people are addicted to chocolate or other foods.

Addiction has many faces. Getting rid of one requires a process. The mind has to let go of its desire to seek the pleasure an addiction brings. Easier said than done?

Once you start to view the world around you as a breeding ground for multiple addictions, you tend to think about things differently.

Enjoy the article and post your comments here or there.

Learning about Health and Fitness in 2007

Are there any alternatives to weight lifting for building muscle and staying in shape?

There most certainly are and you can read about one of them at this link: Alternatives to weight training. Don't get to excited.

They just take up less space. You can do these workouts at home. And you don't need expensive gym memberships to use this equipment.

Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle

So, do you think burning the fat off your body and looking your best is important?

Let me tell you it is not all that important.

People spend way too much time on how they look.

The focus should be on being healthy.

However, the two are not mutually exclusive.

Yet, it is the focus of the person that matters.

If you just want to have a better appearance, it might be worthwhile to think
about what that means from an overall and greater perspective.

Think long term, think about your health and well-being.

Don't just lose weight to look good, lose it only if it is affecting your health.

You can read an evaluation of burn the fat, feed the muscle here:

http://tobeinformed.com/BurnTheFat/burnthefat.html

In it you will find out how it can help you. But, you don't need the book.

However, I know that there are people who will get it anyway, even though
it isn't all that necessary.

Despite that, it is the most complete work I know of on how to correctly lose weight (fat)
and keep it off.

Also of interest is an 8 point free plan that can help you on your quest to lose weight.

Here is a free weight loss email list you can join as well.

Best wishes in your quest to lose weight. You can do it if you really want to.

But first, ask yourself if it is really what you want. Second, ask yourself if it is something you really need.

If the answer is no, then forget about it and move on to something more worthwhile and rewarding, like working on that golf swing or power shopping.

Above all, be kind to others (and yourself). Be tolerant of those who don't treat you well (they are mentally anguished) and always tell the truth.

Truth- Compassion -Tolerance ---- follow those and you'll be happier! - you can read, Zhuan Falun for a deeper understanding.

Diet Supplements are they necessary?

The answer is NO!

You don't need diet supplements for weight loss.

I answer this question pretty thoroughly here:

http://tobeinformed.com/16/

But, alas, despite my best efforts, there are going to be people who insist on
knowning more about diet supplements.

With reluctance, I will tell you that this:

http://7lb.biz/FatLossRevealed.html [AFF] - is the most complete resource for diet supplement information that I'm aware of.

But seriously, you don't need it.

Instead, you can read my free 8 point simple plan for weight loss.

To reinforce what I stated earlier, you don't need diet supplements to lose weight.

Here is an example [aff]of a diet supplement that you don't need.

One major drawback to using diet supplements is that you have to keep buying them and using them. It is much better to understand the free principles of weight loss and utilize the knowledge for a lifetime.

But, I know from years of experience that people won't always listen. And that's ok with me.

I'm the same way myself. I like to experiment and find out for myself. (some people call that the hard way :)

Ah well, happy weight loss anyways!
